Margarita’s Houses is a family-run and sustainable holiday rental company that was born from the desire to welcome and share with others some beautiful houses, located in unique places that connect directly with my heart, with a commitment to doing so in a sustainable way.

My mother, an infinite woman to whom I owe everything I am, taught me to share the houses of Mallorca, starting from her way of receiving people at home, and who has marked my business model: altruistic, generous and focused on achieving the happiness of visitors.

After renovating the houses and starting my business in Mallorca, I soon expanded it to Barcelona, my adopted city; my beloved Barcelona, which in 2011 was the first city in the world to obtain Biosphere Destination certification;

In Barcelona, in the Borne neighborhood, I had the opportunity to acquire a small building opposite the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar; when I went to visit it and saw the church’s stained-glass windows lit up, from what could be my property, I immediately fell in love; I was looking at another unique place that should undoubtedly be part of Margarita’s houses.

The Santa Maria del Mar building was in ruins; it took me time and effort to rebuild it and restore it to how it must have been built in 1800. That was a fundamental premise for me: to respect the history and culture of the area. I believe I achieved that. At the same time, since it was a complete renovation, it was the right moment to implement green energy and modern, sustainable appliances; so I did. Solar panels provide 70% of my domestic hot water…

When it came time to furnish the apartments, it was a pleasure to turn to local carpenters who built much of the furniture, and to illuminate the apartments with lamps by Celeste, an artist who is still unaware of her art.

The development and organization of my company has gone hand in hand with the birth and growth of my son, who is now 12 years old; in our education, the only insurmountable limits we set for Tomás are: respect for others, respect for things, and respect for himself.

The boundaries of Margarita’s houses are identical:

Respect for others is shown through a commitment to working towards environmental management and sustainability, social inclusion, dignity and equality, solidarity and pluralism, as well as promoting local and regional tourism and responsible communication.

We promote friendly and responsible tourism that is welcome, enjoys the benefits of the place, usually wants to return, and is respectful of the place, its culture, its beaches and its nature.

We expect our guests to enjoy our beaches with respect, to venture into our crystal-clear waters to observe native marine species without harming them, to lose themselves in our Mallorcan garrigue forests without leaving a trace; to get lost in Barcelona and be moved by its art and culture, leaving all elements intact.

I must tell you that the close relationship with my guests has helped me a lot to improve; perhaps this is the time and place to express my gratitude, because in my pursuit of excellence I have allowed myself to be guided by their suggestions to optimize the facilities. On my journey, I have noticed that more and more my guests feel more committed to the sustainability goals of my company, I imagine because in that way, they also feel more respect for themselves.

I’ve been hearing about sustainability for a while without being too aware of its meaning; lately I’ve had time to investigate and I’ve realized that sustainability is not only a way of life but it is my way of life, they are the same red lines that my son cannot cross.

Well, this is my proposal and my commitment to all of you and to society; finally, I want to tell you that Margarita’s houses, in the future, assumes the role of a tourist rental management company, as a reference and quality hallmark, in accordance with the guidelines of the Biosphere distinction and the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism +20.

I wish you a happy and sustainable holiday.
